Born Salvatore Phillip Bono, Sonny was an actor, politician, singer, and record producer. His largest commercial success happened during 1971-1977 when he was part of the Sonny and Cher Duo. They had their own television variety show.
Bono was married several times and had three children.
Following his music career he was elected to U.S. House of Representatives in 1994 representing a California district. His causes included copy write patents, and saving the Salton Sea.
He died in a skiing accident in Nevada in 1998
