My heart goes out to Angie's family, friends, and everyone else who was lucky enough to know her. She was just trying to live her life, just like all of us, and that someone hated that enough to kill her makes me so sad. You are all in my thoughts, please stay strong and may there be justice for Angie.

to angie's family and sister - even though i only read about what happened in the paper, my heart goes out to you for your loss - your sister was a beautiful woman, she didn't just want to be one, she was one - and i hope you will be able to remember her that way.

There have been special people sent into the world to shine light on the darkest places. Illuminating misunderstanding, hatred and malice, Angie, and those who were martyred before her have focused our attention on the necessity of acceptance and an open dialogue about differences. Many who have expressed their thoughts here have honored Angie with vigils and memorials. We must resolve not to let Matthew Shepard, Angie Zapata or any of the others die in vain. We must teach out children to accept. We must say no to inappropriate jokes. And we must STOP the VIOLENCE. I don’t know any words that can ease the pain for those who loved Angie but I silently add my tears to the river of sadness. I hope that you find comfort knowing that so many strangers are lifting you up in love. It’s a tribute to the shining light of Angie’s spirit. Wishing you peace, Rita J.

It is sad to see such a beautiful woman taken from this earth so violently. May you rest in peace knowing your life touched so many people. I am a bisexual woman and I faced many critics growing up so I know how hard it is to be strong and open about your sexuality. You were so brave and beautiful and you will be missed even by the people who never met you!!!

This is a sad day, I as well came across this report, making me feel sick inside. I know that God's love will protect you now Angie, and also help your Family and Friends during this very hard time.

User avatar

I just came across Angie's story on CNN and I can not express how sad this makes me. I looked at Angie's photos and she was an ingredibly beautiful woman who seemed to be full of life! I would like to acknowledge the bravery that Angie had at such a young age. She knew who she was and was not afraid to be that person! That is such a rare characteristic in a person that it saddens me even more knowing the world is short one person with those amazing abilities. I hope the coward that did this to her and caused so much pain for her family and friends gets the punishment deserving of the crime. I only hope one day he feels the shame of is actions and the guilt is the weight of 10,000 bricks. I know Angie will be missed.

I am deeply moved at the murder of this young woman. I am also transgendered. And like Angie I am M2F. I hope that Angie's passing will not be in vain. Like the' Mathew Shepard Law', we need an 'Angie's Law'. That people, like the scum, who killed this beautiful woman will be punished to the fullest extent of the law. You will be missed Angie Baby, and not just by your family, but by all of the Transgendered community and the GLBT community in general. And as I write this I hear Helen Reddy's song 'Angie Baby'. I will always cry for Angie when I hear that song.. May you rest in peace, Angie. And I know that you have a special place in heaven.

I have just come across the site and the awful tale of what happend to Angie. My name is Natasha i am the best friend of Robyn Browne who was also murderd in a brutal and savage way more then ten years ago. I have just come back from the court in London where i gave evidece as i was witness to the event. The animal who cut short my lovely friends life due to us being trangenderd recieved life inprisonment. Its hard for me to continue when gentle loving souls like Angie and Robyns lives are cut short by so much hate and violence. love and light to you Angie and Robyn

This is such a sad tragedy. My thoughts are with all of you. The guy should be killed just as he killed. Its 2009 people should let people be and love who they want. I am a straight women but think all people should have rights to be who they are or want to be. Thanks

This is terrible Angie was a beautiful WOMAN, I wish she and all the other people harmed like this would've found that person to accept and love them for who they are people. I personally wish I could've had the pleasure of meeting her.R.I.P Angie

I first heard about this case on Aqui y Ahora, it touched me very much, I am sisters to a lesbian and a bi, but no matter what those are my sisters and I love them so much, I am I guess you can say...the "straight" one but having my daughters share and live and enjoy my sister's company means everything to me......I deeply relate to Monica, no matter what, your sister is your sister male or female.....Angie was a beautiful person inside and out, she did not deserve the things that happened to her.....I just wanted to give my sympathy.....RIP Lovely Angie......I know you're making heaven a more prettier place with you beauty...

Reading this story breaks my heart. I don't understand why that man...no, that monster...couldn't accept Angie for who she was. He had no reason to kill her. Second-degree murder my ass! This should be charged as a first-degree murder and a hate crime. It's so terrible. Rest in peace, Angie. You are with G-d now. Although I did not know you, I know that you deserve the best. I can tell that you are missed terribly. All of the love in my heart, Pamela <3

I never met Angie. I was never a friend of hers, never even an acquaintance. But her story has touched me deeply, even though I live across the United States. Her story has reached me all the way over here in Buffalo, and I've been looking into as many facts as I can find about her. I'm President of my school's Gay Straight Alliance, and this year for the Transgender Day of Remembrance each member of our group is going to look up the story of one transperson and dedicate November 20th to their memory. I chose to dedicate my memorial to Angie. I know it's not going to bring her back to all of the people who love her, but I feel this is the very least I could do for such a beautiful woman gone too soon. Rest in peace, Angie, and know that you have reached more lives than you can possible imagine. Peace and Love Ada

Tonight at SMYRC will be a brief candlelight vigil for Angie Zapata, a transgendered youth who was brutally murdered in Colorado last month. While none of us knew Angie personally we all feel she was a part of our larger community and we want to remember her in that way. We have decided as SMYRC youth that remembering people in our community who fall to the hands of hatred and ignorance, as a way to create solidarity, community and remembrance. So tonight, after our regularly scheduled open mic we will be shutting off the lights, lighting some candles and offering some hope and prayers to Angie, and her friends and family in Colorado. this is definitely a low pressure-low key event. The community is invited to come for open mic and stay for the vigil. I invite you to come. Where: SMYRC 2100 SE Belmont Portland, OR www.smyrc.org (posted by connor landmark.of.freedom@gmail.com)

I, Cierra, did not know the victim of this story. I am saddened to hear about it. And... I send my condulences to her family and friends. Feel free at anytime to come look at my page. I am still working on it so excuse the ''unfinished'' piece of art. And... I pick the flying dove because, to me, it says peace. Think about it this way... It's her dove. She's at peace now!
