I knew Bea Burke when we were children living close to each other in Melbourne in 1926 - 35, when I then returned to England with my father (Tim Hervey) who was a POW with Bea's father Maurice Burke in Germany in the First World War. Lots of memories of holidays outside Melbourne in a little house with oil lamps, rain on the tin roof and the 'cluggy' down the bottom of yard! I stayed with Bea in 1989 in Melbourne and met many of her fiends (Jane Neville and her son Richard, and Air Commodore Richard Getting). I also visited my old school at Ruyton. Sadly like many others I have only just found out about her death. We always would talk on the phone around the time of my brithday and when I did not hear, I was worried that something had happened. Love to you Bea - you have left us with many wondeful memories. Fizzy and Bill Felton and all the family.

Only just became aware of the passing of a great lady BEA BURKE who was instrumental in the rehabilitation of so many of us former POLIO patients at FAIRFIELD INFECTIOUS DISEASES HOSPITAL, and through the HEALTH DEPARTMENT POLIO DIVISION, and at YOORALLA and LADY DUGGAN RED CROSS CENTRE. She remained a friend for over 50 years, sadly did not know of her passing nor of her funeral, but she will be forever in my heart and my memory. Thankyou BEAfor all you did for me RIP

Friends in the UK would very much like further details of Bea's passing as we only heard ths new on 7th July 2011. We knew her from Great War battlefield tours and visiting her in East Kew, Victoria. She also contributed material on her father and uncle (KIA) to research papers on the Great War.
