I first met Carl at the laparoscopic conference organised by David Hill and Peter Maher, his terrible twins. It was clear that Carl had spawned a school of surgery that was keenly competitive and ambitious. Through him there emerged in Melbourne this competent team of doctors the like of which we shall not see again. Eventually Carl and I met up in the Conference held in Sun City in Botswana. This was an odd event in an odder location: the leisure centre that was originally conceived as a combined casino and knocking shop had reinvented itself as a "family oriented Convention Centre" and successfully so. After the Conference as we drifted around Africa on a nostalgic safari, we kept meeting up with Carl and his partner: and so I had a greater than normal opportunity to get to know him well. And what a civilised gentleman he was. Curious but suave with the best manners and a brain to match, although one could just discern the degeneration that was eventually to isolate him The best that can be said of any of us is that it was a pleasure to know him and that I cherish his memory

Dr. Wood, Thank you so much fore being a genius and working selflessly to ensure that women who may not have been able to have a family would have that chance. I am so grateful to you and all that inspired you to do your work. As a result of your work, I have this beautiful baby as part of my family, a reflection of myself and my husband. May you never be forgotten and your family blessed due to your contributions.

We will forever honor the life works of Carl Wood. His innovations in IVF made it possible for me to have to have our son from IVF. Without his genius into the medical field this would not have happened and I would not be the happy woman I am today. I owe my son and a life time of happiness to the wonderful man of Carl Wood. To know that my son was the last baby to be born under Professor Wood before he retired was wonderful. He changed the world for us and many families. I was very fortunate to have Professor Wood as my doctor and friend, that always was there for me. God bless R.I.P. Condolences to the Woods family. Vince, Linda & John

I will forever honor the life works of Carl Wood. His innovations in IVF made it possible for me to have to a family beginning in 2004. I have three children from IVF. Without his genius into the medical field this would not have happened and I would not be the happy woman I am today. I owe my children and a life time of happiness to the wonderful mind of Carl Wood. He changed the world. My heart goes out to the Wood family, you lost a mover and shaker today.
