I am deeply thankful to God for every remembrance of David. We first knew David from the time of our coming to Seaforth in 1987. I can't say how many times we were grateful for David (and Alison's) medical help for different members of our family, but there were so many other ways in which David was a blessing to us. As warden of St Paul's a number of times over the years, he was consistently supportive, even if we did not always agree on every detail; but even disagreement was expressed gently and kindly. It would be impossible to calculate how much time and effort David put into the activities of St Paul's, and more than the activities as such, into the lives of many members of the congregation. He was greatly loved and highly respected. I consider it an honour to have performed the marriage ceremony for each of the three sons, and in that way to have been admitted a bit more closely into the family circle. Since we left St Paul's and returned to missionary service, it has been good to keep in touch, through communication at a distance, through deputation visits to St Paul's, and through my occasional participation with the Seaforth men in the annual Katoomba convention, for which I was usually accommodated in the Beards' Blackheath home. May God comfort and bless you all, Alison, Malcolm, Sandy and Simon, along with all of the extended family who grieve David's loss.
