When I first arrived as a young teacher at De La Salle Ashfield in 1974 I was greeted most warmly by Dave. That first day in a school is most important, and Dave was the one I most remember as making it go smoothly for me. Over the following 8 or 9 years, he was like a rock. For the last few of those years I was head of the mathematics department, and Dave was most supportive. And he was always good to sit down and have a beer with!
