I met Harold & Gloria in 1978 at my first LBA Meeting. We met that night and became instant freinds for the next 30 years. I was from West Los Angeles. The only thing I knew about East Los Angeles was "the white fence gang". I was aprehensive about going to a business meeting in East Los Angeles. They way I was received was noting but positive. Through the years I became a part of the LBA. Harold called me, one of several calls from him. He wanted me to be chairman of the LBA Annaul golf event to raise money for LBA projects & Student grants. Harold founded the LBA Foundation, whick was set up to assistance Latino& Latina students with grant money for college. I loved the program. I loved seeing the yound students resumes' and how they got to this point in their lifes. Harold WAS RESPONSIBLE for this great idea.. When Harold asked me to chair the golf event ,there was "the old boys" that had controled the event and had made it a party event. The goolf event, until this time never made any profit. Just a big party fro thier clients and others. I called Harold and told no one would help me. I was on the phone with Harold at this time. When I told him I was not getting any support from the LBA Executive Director personal, well on the phone with me, he called the LBA office to talk to the Exuctive Director about my complaint. WE were put on hold. On hold Harold told me if they said they had no time to asssit me, right there on the phone he would fire him on the spot, over the phone. Needless to say when he got on the phone Harold let him know that that I had full support on the LBA no ifs, or buts.. Needless to say I got 100% backing from the LBA. I proceed to bulid a great LBA team for the golf event. First thing I did was look outside East LA for a golf course. We ened up having the event in the Valley at Breamar golf course. My ambition was to make it "an event" I had reserved two golf courses at Breamar CC. Make this story short. WE MADE $110,000.00 on the event. Had over 300+ golfers. WE clear close to $50.000.00. For me, it started me on a new venture, producing golf events for a fee. After that first LBA golf I Chaired the event for several years and then handed over to others. I continued to work with the golf event over many years. ALL THES YEAR'S THERe WAS GLORIA & HAROLD AT EVERY MEETING! They were the best.. I remeber the times we all met at some LBA members facilities to do the "goodie bags" Harold & Gloria were always the first to help, in many ways, to get this event going. From selling raffle ticjkets, setting up golf prizes and whatever it took to make the golf event a complete success, My relationship with Harold was always postive. WE NEVER HAD A CROSS WORD TOWARD EACH OTHER.. I found out that East LA was not so different from West LA. In my life , as I reflect, Harold was like a brother to me and a wonderful freind. I will miss him dearly. I was lucky to have dinner with Harold & Gloria a few months ago before he left us for a better place. WE joked and had so much fun together. I must add, Gloria was Harold's partner & right hand. I love them with all my heart.
