Mrs Sheehan was always at number 23 for as long as I can remember. She and Bernie and daughters Rita and Josie were our neighbours. I'll always remember Harriet Joy in the kitchen, making her famous roast, at the sink, in and out of the strip fly screen, sitting at the table reading the paper and listening to the races on the radio. Her astrology and love of all things spooky and unexplainable. She was into health foods way before it was fashionable. She taught Josie and I to stick up for ourselves. She taught me to wrap a present, how to do a crossword puzzle, to make jam. She gave us kids her time and her attention and nothing was too difficult. Her laugh was infectious, a cross between a peal and a cackle. She was a fine woman, a proud Aussie with a great love of family. I am so honoured to have known and loved her and will miss her so much. Love you forever and ever Harriet Joy, you live on in our wonderful memories of you. With love always from Mary xxx
