It is always sad when we lose a great talent, and Jo was one of the best. She had a very recognizable voice, and always in perfect tune. I enjoyed listening to her sing, whether her hits, old recordings with the Pied Pipers, or even some of the novelty numbers. For the past year I began listening to her more intently, enjoying some of the videos available on the internet and adding a a good bit of her music to my iPod. When Jo was turning 90 last fall, I started reading biographical notes and began thinking how neat it would be to meet that lady. She will be greatly missed. Gene Hurwitz age 65

I love her voice. I bought a 1965 Motorola Console Stereo and one of the first albums I bought was of Jo Stafford. From Shrimp Boats to Jambalaya I would just let it play through the night so I could enjoy waking up to her voice. I had a 1960 T-Bird that I would drive through the streets of San Francisco with its original AM radio and I can honestly say my heart would leap each time KABL played You Belong To Me. When I lost a lover through tragedy that song helped me to cope as well. Thank you Jo Stafford for all the love you gave through your beautiful voice. Solemandd67@yahoo.com

To Amy Weston, I'm so happy I can see you here. Personaly, I'm not that old (37 now), but music your wonderfull mother left us is so full of deepest emotions one ever could imagine. You're invited just to listen and to discover that beautiful sound heritage. Unfortunately, unique music disc with music I found, transfered and wanted to send to you, never reach you. It is my sound transfer from acetate master I found few years ago with two tracks, with your mother and vocal group as a support. Recorded around 1944. or 1946. Later, if you ever feel or want to have this recording, please feel free to contact me: milanpmilovanovic@gmail.com I will be glad if I can help in getting full discography of, as I said earlier here, one of the most important singer in XX century...

I listen to an "oldies" station and this morning they played a lovely tribute to Jo Stafford. May her memory sustain you and your family. What a treasure to be able to still listen to her sing and the memories they will entail. May God sustain you through this time.

Although a generation behind her music, "You Belong to Me" is one of my favorite songs. I especially remember the night I rescued and adopted a dog. On the way home, I sang it to her to express my joy of this precious pet coming into my life. After that, whenever I would sing it, my awesome MaxxMae would wag her tail and come offering a kiss. It made her happy too. "Fly the ocean in a silver plane..."

How genuinely sad I was this morning to learn that Jo Stafford has passed away. I'm 33 years old, and discovered Jo Stafford when I was in high school. My wife and I both have loved her music so much. We danced to her music at our wedding reception, 11 years ago today as a matter of fact! We still play it in the car on date nights, and especially enjoy her Christmas music during the holidays. She was sweet enough to autograph a card for me through the mail several years ago, and I certainly treasure that. I'm a pastor, and want to assure the Weston family of my prayers for you today and in the days to come. May God bless and comfort you as only He can. Jo's music means so much to us and many others, and we'll continue to enjoy her beautiful voice.

As the words of another song says, "There will never be another you", Jo. Your heavenly voice touched so many millions and for those of us left to remember, we'll miss you terribly but rememberyou fondly. As a young child growing up in the 50's I remember being stunned the first time I heard your voice on the radio...it had to be and angel singing. We're all thankful technology has brought us your collections to enjoy forever. My singing will always pay tribute to yours.

The greatest popular female vocalist ever!! I became a fanof GI Joe As A young teenager during the second World War. In 1950 as a bound for Korea Marine training at Camp Pendelton I would hitchhike every Sunday to the NBC studios in Hollywood to watch Jo and Tony Martin perform on radio's the Carnation Milk Hour. At the end of each performance Jo and Tony would sneak every serviceman present into the adjoining Palladium Club for a night of dancing. The country has lost a remarkable woman and unsurpassed performer. She will be sorely missed but never forgotten. Her music lives after her. Ken Perkins kennethperkins@hotmail.com

I first heard Jo Stafford in England in the mid 1950's on AFN (American Forces Network) with a short wave radio my parents had, perhaps foolishly, let me set up in my bedroom. I was only 14 at the time but was so impressed with her incredible voice and the songs she sang, "You belong to me", etc., etc., that I wrote to her fan club for a photograph - I had never done this before for any singer, celebrity, or athlete, and have never done it since. Sure enough a signed photograph arrived in the mail a few weeks later. Unfortunately, I no longer have the photograph, but I do have an indelible memory of her singing. That I will never forget. PS. The icon set is rather strange and inappropriate, but... "fly the ocean in an silver plane."

I have collected every CD released with Jo's incomparable voice. There will never be another singer with such purity of tone and warmth of delivery. She has been called "a voice from home" and that is a fine description. My condolences to her family, we are all grateful for all the beautiful music she and Paul Weston created in their lifetimes. Thank you, Amy, for letting us know she passed peacefully. She was and is a much loved woman.

Whenever I hear "You Belong to Me", I think of a day in mid 1950's when my aunt and her fiance and I (teenager) were in his car driving down some country road when this song came on the radio. Uncle Norm pulled the car over to the side of the road and they got out and danced in the field oblivious to my presence in the car. Both aunt and uncle are gone now, but this song helps keep them alive in my mind and heart - and transports me back to a truly magical moment in their lives. What a wonderful voice, so soothing and expressive. Thank you for the chance to share. Jersey Girl

My mother was also a big band singer under the name of Ruth Gaylor. I always admired the warmth and tone of Jo Stafford's voice, and her humor. Did anyone ever hear the recording of "Jonathan and Darlene Edwards in Paris"? One of the best parodies and side splitting laughs I've ever had. Search it out and enjoy. I read of Jo's passing, and immediately "See the pyramids along the Nile" started flooding by mind. I learned to dance to "You belong to me" in the fifties. Her voice will live on in the hearts of those of us born in the 30's and nurtured on good, plaintive music.

Sadly I heard of Jo's passing as I was listening to Fresh Air this afternoon. They did a tribute by replaying an interview with Jo and Paul in 1988. They were the best and her beautiful voice and yes comic tunes too will live on!

I was so saddened today to learn of Jo's passing. She was an icon in the history of popular American music and truly had one of the purist, truist voices ever recorded. I first became familiar with her voice when I was in college-- I am 39 years old now, so this would take me back about twenty years. I bought a two record LP set that had "You Belong To Me" in there and I loved that song. I would play it over and over. One day, Dad walked through my bedroom and stopped and just listened. He never was one to talk much or to even comment on his experiences in Korea, as he'd just as soon forget them. However, he did this day when I was playing that record-- he said, "Son, you have no idea how big that song was when I was in Korea. You couldn't go into the mess hall or a bar or anywhere without hearing that song playing. It was everywhere." For him, that was saying a lot. I'll never forget that and the slight smile he had on his face when he was telling that story. I also have to mention my other favorite memory of Jo Stafford was in her alter egos, Darlene Edwards and Cinderella G. Stump. Cinderella's version of "Tim-Tay-Shun" is as funny as anything you'll ever hear. And of course, Darlene's notoriously flat, sharp or off beat renderings of songs like "Your Blase," cannot be forgotten. I had a friend once who said that it takes incredible talent to be able to know what notes should be sung and yet, be able to intentionally sing them all flat or sharp. So true, and this lady was talented! Jo, your music will live on with our records and also, your memory is in our hearts. -- Randall Riley, Austin, TX
