John Curtis chessplayer later a FIDE chessmaster too was John's 'first' client following his admission to the Bar as a Barrister. I was a young 19 year old man and innocent of a most serious crime and was represented by John for free. I was acquitted and had no criminal record, without which I would not have became a fraud investigator and personally discovered evidence leading to the arrest of a male for murder of an innocent woman in May 2011 by the NSW unsolved homicide squad nearly 40 years after John represented me. I have fond memories of John and friends going back to the Old Chatswood Chess Club around 1969
