What a wonderful human. I was lucky enough to have lived in the same street for a few years and enjoyed daily contact. Jonathan was one of the best people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. Such a funny, erudite, expansive person. He connected others so effortlessly. A conduit of humanity with a nudge and a wink all in the best possible taste. Vale Jonathan, I'll miss you. Clare x

John - always the perfect gentleman! My first employer in the Rag Trade - I slept many a night in Flinders Lane after a big night waiting for the office to open. Managed to walk through the front plate glass door 2 days in a row - John would always laugh and say "are you trying to sabotage me?" He was a charmer with the most attractive women - not sure how he managed to stay single! We talk of him often and all who knew him (and there were so many) always had good and happy memories of him, as do we. Our sympathies are with Judy and Gil.

I will miss you Magic Man…thank you for making my childhood more magical as my "surrogate father" with your good guidance, love and glass overflowing attitude. I am glad you lived as you always advised me to …"life's not a dress rehearsal little baby".

I found out today that Jonathan is no longer with us. I was quite shocked as I didnt know he had been ill lately. He will long be remembered by me as a South Yarra icon, a real gentleman, a neighbour who always asked me how I was and commented on how lovely I looked. He always had time for a chat in passing outside his business. Often he gave a friendly wave of his hand as he sped by me driving down Punt Road in his white sports car. Jonathan will be sadly missed in the South Yarra community. So sorry I didn't include him when writing my 'Schmattes' book about Flinders Lane's garment trade as couldn't find him and didnt realise until after it was published, he worked only a few doors down from my home! My condolences to his family. Lesley Sharon Rosenthal

Pal and I enjoyed 3 winters together in Port Douglas playing tennis, socialising, laughing and the friendship continued when I married his dear friend Michael.....Pal was the ultimate wedding broker. Pal flew to Perth for the wedding and gave the most memorable wedding speech full of love happiness and the positives of life. Every time I came to Melbourne we would share time at the Bot and meet the characters of his life. He was a wonderful uncle to Scotty and a beautiful brother to Gilbert and Judy. He was a dear friend and legend on many levels. May god find you a place on the tennis courts in heaven and you can continue to orchestrate the passion you shared with us on earth. My deepest sympathy to Pals family.....you have lost the very best. With love Heather Michael Jackson Georgie and Sammy Robinson Surfers Paradise.
