I just bought a book from the local Vinnies shop which was written by Dr Paver. I bought the book because I was a nurse at Blacktown Hospital from the first years of opening. Dr Paver was a good doctor and was greatly respected by all who worked or were treated by him.
My family and I have all been treated by Dr Paver. I remember sitting up on the examination table along with my brother and us both having our shirts off. We were covered in hives. It was an allergy to tomatoes. Another time again with my brother, I remember having our tiny warts burnt off our tummies. We were about 8 and 10 (mid 70's). I always picture these moments every time I drive past Blacktown Hospital as we saw Dr Paver in his rooms in the grounds of the hospital. I also remember the warm feeling I had when visiting Dr Paver because he was so friendly to us and he reminded me of a warm and kind grandfather. Thank you to Dr Paver and his family. I became a patient of Dr Paver's at about 7 or 8(about 1971). I had an excema problem from the time I was a few weeks old and when we moved to Sydney he became my dermatologist. I saw more of him than my own grandfathers (who were still living in Queensland). He became like a grandfather to me. He would always want to know how I was going more generally than just my skin and would ask very direct questions and expect an answer. I remember in the the mid eighties when I had finished school I used to go to very early morning appointments to avoid being late for work he would extract himself from his car and hobble in to the surgery with his stick (particularly in winter). I felt somewhat bereft when he retired. When I think of what he went on to do with his life after that time, when most people would have sat in a chair and read the paper, I am inspired to live my life accordingly. Thankyou for sharing him with me. Kirstin Poyitt (nee Shaw)
