I met Matcham in early 2009..I asked if I could photogrqaph him on 4x5 film using a camera I had built especially for an exhibition of the Artists of Montsalvat.. I was invited in and spent several hours chatting with him. I returned on a few occasions and always received a warm welcome. Matcham was a larger than life character who told me many stories and often showed off his many photographs. I am thankful to have his image recorded on my larger than life negatives..
Matham's life will live on in his art and the endless stories he has told. He was a true instriration, an individual and creative mind. He was a teacher, an artist, a friend. I owe so much to him and his family, they all contribute to my life's development, ideas and values as a yond teenage and into my adulthood. Montsalvat will never be the same, although his presence will still be felt. Even now I wish I had recorded all his conversations, his outlook on life was truly remarkable, he had so much to offer and was always prepared to give. To Adam, Damien Marcus, Rebecca and the extended family, all the best. - Anthony
