I never met the great man, but I listen to his music non stop. He is the greatest creator of dub music that I have ever come across. I hope him and Bob Marley are collaborating up in heaven on some killer tracks.

We at Domino Room in Bend Oregon will always remember Mikey Dread and we miss him. Mikey had a great Spirit that he always brought with him and shared with all who listened. My favorite memory of MIkey, is when we were going through contract negotiations he would call me on the telephone & he would leave me a telephone message saying "Rhoda, come to the phone, I need to talk to you", I would email him and say, I won't talk to you on the phone until we complete the contract, as he was too persuasive to talk to in person! We love you MIkey and miss your earthly presence, but you live on as a part of us and this world, you made your mark...

Mikey was an inspiration to myself and a particular friend of mine named The Admiral (a reggae recording artist now living in South Africa.) We grew up in the London together, and apart from playing a sound system and constantly listening to dub albums during the eighties (Channel One, King Tubbys, Scientist etc.), one of our favourites was the African Anthems album by Mikey. That was the first of his matrial to cut it with us, but we loved all of his stuff and still do. My brother, rest in peace.

...was only 15, white boy with scruffy ginger hair went to a reggae music shop at the top of Moss Lane West after hearing Mike Shaft (I think) playing a tune off African Anthem album. The proprietor looked me up and down, with my Sex Pistols t-shirt on, and started to laugh - which started from deep within his innards. I passed over my £5.50 and ran out of the store, all embarrassed - but treasured the LP for years until I joined the Army (10 years later) - and was sent to Hong Kong. Will always remember the SMELL of that reggae store, though! Now live in Belfast (where I ended my service - and married an Irish rose who hates reggae - she's more a Philly-sound lass). Thank you so much for assisting me in my growing up years, Mr. Dread. Rest in peace, sir.

I remember the Dread at the Controls on JBC, Jamaica from midnight until 5a.m. in the 70's. He was the first reggae DJ on JBC in those days. I then heard his voice on a Clash track in London in 2006! I didn't know about his involvement with them until that time. Much respect. AA Powell (Jamaican selector known as Wire, St Catherines, 1970's)

As a punk in the early 70's the phenomenon called Mikey Dread was the order of the day for any boss DJ. Mikey was the Boss DJ. He collaborations with the clash where a joy and an education for so many people "Inna Ingland", at that time. Copies of his legendary radio shows circulated the world. Mikey Dread , you gave the world so much. You were "Off the hook"..... "Off the Radar"......There will only ever be one Dread At The Controls.
