Early 1960/61 Reg his wife Heather and the youngest of their two daughters they were blessed with at the time - Sandra from memory - were travelling with their show through the western towns of Queensland. They had with them a little lass called Judy Stone. Judy was no more than 15 or 16 years of age at the time. The Lindsays performed in Longreach and had planned to travel to a town some 80 miles north called Muttaburra. The vehicle they were travelling in broke down and a mate of mine helped them pack their gear up and we took them up to do their show. A very fond memory that has stayed with me over these many years. Sandra was a 'pint' sized little thing but could run like the wind. She could run under our modest kitchen table without ducking her head. Reg would often sing a son I'VE BEEN EVERWHERE like no other singer I know. He was aware of my feelings and he often dedicated the song to me when every he performed it.

I was a city boy and only knew Reg Lindsay for his magical song Armstrong. It was just one song, but one that has always been with me. A few weeks after I heard of his death the memory of Armstrong motivated me to look Reg up on the internet. I had no idea he was so big in the bush, or that his material was still available. I bought a copy of No Dress Rehearsal and loved it. I was bit late coming Reg, but thanks for this magnificent introduction to Country Music.

This is my belated tribute to a man who was a true legend of country music... and one I was always proud to call a mate. It wasn't long after I met Reg that we bumped into each other at a shopping centre in Tamworth, where he asked me whether I had ever been invited to place my handprints in the Hands of Fame Park. I told him "no", adding that I didn't think I had done enough to earn that kind of honour. He disagreed and told me he would do something about it... and sure enough, one year later, I was tipped on my side (wheelchair and all) where I became the first to add my 'fistprint' (I couldn't flatten my hand) into the Hands of Fame, where it can still be seen to this day. You were a man of your word, Reg... and there's not too many of us around! I can also recall the evening when you and Ros shared a meal with my dear wife Diane (you called her "the cook") and I at our home in Geelong. Diane was most embarassed when, right in the middle of our dinner, our pet cat jumped up onto the table... but we all had a great laugh about it at the time. Yes, there were many happy memories, Reg... and you were a part of them My sincere condolences to you Ros (sorry I no longer have your current address, so couldn't send a card) and the rest of the family. You have lost a great man and I have lost a good - and true - mate of country music.

Reg, you took us to the Moon and back. Your voice had a mystical quality and your songs became companions for those with a love of the music with story and love attached. Re, we will lay your music because it will keep you close to us. Joe McManamon

You left a legacy Reg that will live on forever with your music. You inspired me to pick up a guitar and write my own music. The next song I write will be for you Reg.
