The man took my breath away from the time I was 14. I am now 72. So many memories i between, way too many to count. I will never forget the 1st movie I ever saw with Richard Widmark -Panic in the Streets- from that time on I saw every one of his movies. Prize of gold had me dreaming the impossible dream for a long, long time. When I lost my virginity I pretended it was him. So silly but oh well that;s the way it was.

I used to hate it when the film started and he didn't appear for a while. When it starred Richard Widmark you wanted to see Richard Widmark. no-one els comes near him for acting. God we're going to miss him.

I left school, christmas 1956 and worked as a projectionistat one of the local cinemas. One of the first films I showed was Fox's The Last Wagon,I was hooked .after that I couldn't wait for the old films to turn up on sundays, or for three days during the week.I heard about Mr Widmarks death whilst watching the BAFTA show last sunday and must admit I shed a tear. Goodnight and God bless old friend you will be missed

I recently learned of Mr. Widmark's death. I lived in Hollywood, one of the most unreal places on earth, and while working there for nearly three years, I met a few of " The Bad, the Ugly and the Good " of the movie industry. Much unlike a movie celebrity, Richard Widmark, never became a Hollywood creature - He rose above it. He was exceptional, if not almost flawless in acting, not so much as for his many talents, but for his character and courage for being an original in Hollywood. I will hold you, Mr. Widmark, in my memories, for your originality in Hollywood where human values are only skin deep. Anthony DeMichielli

In 1958, I was only a kid, but that was the first time I saw Richard Widemark in movie. He was very popular at that time. Almost every week there was a new movie of him advertised. I have seen many of them and I can say he was the man. I adored him all these years and I've been asking myself what have happend to my hero. In my heart I always prayed that I would never wanted to see his end on magasines But still I'm happy that he lived for such long. I will always love him until my last breath. I'm joining my prayers and condolences to his loved ones. May he rest in peace and thanks for his unforgatable performances.

I am in my sixties now and grew up with the movies of Richard Widmark. I remember as a kid here in Ireland seeing him in a movie called "Red Skies Of Montana" and I've been a fan ever since. A tear was shed when I learned he had passed on. Who can forget that sniggering laugh?

I just want to send my condolences to his wife Susan and daughter. From what I read about Richard, he sounded like the most loyal and loving husband and father (like my own father). Susan sounds like a lovely lady and Richard obviously had VERY good taste in wives. His devotion to his first wife is so impressive and Susan sounds just lovely as well. I'm sure his daughter is going to miss her dad a lot and my thoughts and prayers are with you. Cherish the memories of this lovely, lovely man.

Just loved that laugh. I grew up watching his old films and also watched most of his TV work. Very underrated actor. He was right up there with the "big guys"

I first saw him in "Don't Bother To Knock" with Marilyn Monroe, and then "Night And The City" with Gene TIerney. He had such a great range and was one of the most underrated and underappreciated actors of the 20th century. I feel strongly that both he and Glenn Ford should have been awarded LIfetime Achievement Oscars. From what I hear he was also a very kind, stand up guy who disliked his role in "No Way Out" because he played a racist and would always apologize to Sidney Poitier for what he had to say in the film. He had a long life and achieved so much, and we've lost so many greats, but he will live on in his performances and in the hearts of his loved ones, friends and fans.

In 1964 I was an impressionable 14 yo and just starting to go to the movies with friends. I will never forget the day I saw "The Long Ships". The character played by Richard Widmark was full of sardonic humour which really endeared him to me. Who else could have played the part. From then on I saw every movie he ever made and that wasn't easy in those days as videos and DVDs hadn't been invented. You had to scour television movie shows, I lost many hours sleep waiting up to see one of his movies. They were all great, as was the man. I especially loved "How the West Was Won" and "Cheyenne Autumn". Will miss this wonderful actor.

I never have seen an actor do so much with so little production values, He elevated every movie above it's natural formula. Very few pictures lived up to match his talent. thus mostly small gems populate his career. It appears he had some luck in a time of charismatic tough guy actors like richard boone,.lee van cleef, and walter jack palance, Gone but not forgotten. favorite: the bedford incident. before there was a tom clancy.

I have been a fan of Richard Widmark for these past sixty years, since I was 13 years old. My big sister took me to see Mr. Widmark at the premiere of "Down To The Sea In Ships" in Manhattan. We saw him and his wonderful wife, Jean, walk through the lobby and I was able to get a little snapshot which I have treasured all these years. It has been great watching the various roles he has filled all these years. Thanks, dear friend, for what you have given to all of us.

I didn't see any news items about Richards death & was shocked to learn that he had gone. He was an under rated actor &, for me, VERY sexy. The way he used his mouth. Only Frank Sinatra had as sexy a mouth. Not important U might think but, to me, how some of the so called guys of today R called sexy beats me...Clooney OMG not at all..Richard fine actor & oh so sexy. I will miss seeing him.

Richard Widmark was one of my favourite actors, and a role model when I was growing up. This world is a lesser place for his passing. May this true gentleman rest in eternal peace. He was one of those very few people who was loved by those who never met him Paul Corrick. (London, England)

Richard Widmark was my model in life, and I thank him for this : at the outside he looked like a hard-liner, but inside he was in fact a very gentle person. I' ll try to keep up with him and walk in his footsteps .... won't be easy, but that way he will never be forgotten.

Widmark's film The Bedford Incident had the most powerful ending I ever saw in any film. He was one of the greats else he would not have been with John Wayne in The Alamo. The music from his hit The Long Ships was fantastic and worthy of Mr. Widmark. Which actor still active can equal Mr. Widmark? None of whom I am aware. Wow. Talk about one of the greats!

I thank you for the immense pleasure films like Prize of Gold, Pick-up on South St, Backlash, Time Limit, Run for the Sun and The Last Wagon have given me. You will live for ever in my heart and I'm sure those of all your many respectful admirers.

My first memory of a favourite Richard Widmark movie was The Last Wagon. I thought what a handsome man and good actor as I watched the movie with my Dad. His crooked smile, receding hairline made him a very desirable leading man as well. My heartfelt condolences to his wife and family on yet another movie legend lost.

Much sympathy to his family. Can't remember my first memory but he has always been my number one, making even average movies really watchable. He held his own with greats like Cooper, Tracey, Peck, Douglas and Stewart. My favourite has always been Alvarez Kelly and I am still hoping to catch Cold Sassy Tree Secret Ways, Vanished, Tunnel of Love and Time Limit. A sad time but at least he seemed to enjoy his long life and had a stable family background.
