I found "love and other revolutionary actions" in an op shop years ago. It was a thin, simply produced book with poetry that moved me more than I can explain. I never had the honour of meeting Roberta Sykes, but her eloquence and passion have profoundly changed the way that I look at myself and the world. Thank you.
Roberta use to ask me how my PhD was going and I usually said, slowly. she then would say, just write it, get on with it, I wrote mine and then go on to talk about the energy with which she wrote and then she would leave me feeling like I could do it. I was a police officer at Redfern and then I retired to teach at university. What I remembered about our conversations about law enforcement and social justice that it did not matter the size of the woman it was the amount of fight she had. roberta had a fierce and enduring energy supported by an inspiring intelligence and will do to for others.
