I only know Roy through my research into his military life, especially his involvement in the rescue of survivors following the 1945 Kapooka Tragedy which claimed 26 of his colleagues. With disregard for his own safety he thrust himself into the carnage to rescue men desperate for his help. From what I know of this man he is an unheralded unassuming WWII hero who showed both the courage of a lion and the compassion for his fellow soldiers that was extraordinary. From one soldier to another, 'lest we forget'.
