One gets really confused when speaking of such a great man--the best THAT ALAI FAMILY HAD.To me,japuony represented extreme wisdom, unparalled humour and a basketfull of Advice; He could even make the most boring occassions very joyous.I really owe him alot for the countless pieces of advice he gave me at no costs and which have no doubt propelled me forward--MAY GOD REST HIS SOUL IN ETERNAL PEACE

If I start writing about my dad, I will fill so many pages of books because words cannot describe who dad was well enough; the list of who he was is simply endless! You had to meet him to be able to know him better:) For those who didn't know him, I'll try the best I can to describe him for you. First of all, to me, dad was MY HERO and my siblings and all, can testify to the fact that dad was a true HERO to family, friends, neighbours, to all and even strangers! As we all know, the word HERO is an english word, but for those who don't know, it can also be a Dholuo word meaning TO LOVE (Hera or Hero). Dad was a HERO for his lifetime achievements, his legacy and also because he was all about LOVE. He often amazed many people by his love, care, joy, strength, passion, courage, charity, wisdom, sacrifice, selflessness, goodness and kindness. He had an open and a beautiful heart and was the epitome of kindness and Love. He impacted lives everywhere and touched the hearts of many who knew him and who did not! Everywhere dad went, he left a mark in someone's heart, a smile on someone's face, and a word of wisdom in someone's mind! He was the best father ever, always kind, loving, caring, respectful, understanding, candid, generous and selfless. He was a very sincere and honest man who called a spade a spade and never beat around the bush! When asked for advice, he often spoke honestly. He fed many hungry stomachs, clothed many naked people, gave to many empty handed, filled many empty souls with wisdom, gave strength to many weak, encouraged the discouraged ones and touched so many lives! He was a good, supportive father who was a great listener, quick to understand, slow to judge and fast to help with both councell and any other way he could. He was the epitome of integrity, intelligence, generosity, honesty, kindness, sacrifice, wisdom, humour and strength. He opened his heart and wisdom to family, friends, neighbours and even strangers. Being a great talker who was full of humour, wisdom and wit, my dad was fun to be around and I really enjoyed talking to him or just sitting and listening to his words of wisdom! When dad was home, there was always someone around him for people enjoyed being around him. At home, there was always a visitor with him, coming to see him, or leaving his presence, people would not have enough of him, his words of wisdom, love, kindness, patience, sense of humour or generosity. He was charismatic and attracted people wherever he was or went. He always had something to say in any situation. To me he was the greatest of all, and I couldn't have asked for a better father! I called him BABA which to me means; Best All round Best of All fathers This is because I cannot compare my dad to anyone for he was a true HERO, who stood out from all! I thank God for my dad's colourful life! Ladies and gentlemen, I am very honoured and forever grateful for being daughter of the late Samson Onyango Alai. My father had integrity, good character and sense of humour. He was strong, handsome, loving, caring, kind, honest, nice, responsible, patient, committed, generous, giving, passionate, accountable, sociable, trustworthy, truthful, talented, joyous, great father! May God bless the work of his hands, and rest his soul in eternal peace.

Happy are they that have died knowing the Lord for they shall arise when His Kingdom Come, mano obed ukumbani “Be still, the Lord shall comfort you”

Ours was always a full family no matter the relations. Dad opened his arms to many fatherless children, even strangers. I will never forget his generosity, warmth, firm but loving chastise, self-sacrifice and general concern for all he knew. A few hours before his death, he had been running errands for his ill sister-in-law, even making appeal for funds on her behalf believing his was 'minor' common ailment.

Robert, It is never easy for those left behind when you lose someone. May it help to know that many share your sorrow and stand with you in this time of grief. There have been angels in our lives, and while they may not have arrived with a blast of trumpets or a rustle of wings, we’ve known them all the same and they have performed their acts in human guise sometimes borrowing the faces of family and friends or sometimes posing as well meaning strangers. You have known them too and when just the right word was needed or when a tiny act of kindness made a great difference, you perhaps heard a voice whispering in a night of sorrow, though the words not so clear but the meaning unmistakable, “Be still, the Lord shall comfort you” Lamentations 3:22 -23 The Lord’s loving kindnesses indeed never cease for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning.
