Dad… Sergei… everything I did in my life was for you…. You were the anti-hero…The Knight in Rusty-armour (Helene your life Sweetheart... Sexy Bitch! no dis-respect damn girl!) So that you would love me … all I wanted was for us was to be together …. That was my dream… that one day we would all be together …. Everything …I couldn’t make that dream come true for any of us …. I tried … I loved you … I loved Alex … I loved Mum .. my enduring memory is the warmth of the Sunday 2 October 1976 … in Crown Street Surry Hills Women’s Hospital…outside in the car…endlessly waiting in a parked car in the Eastern suburbs… for Dad… later a beautiful baby was born … my sister Alexandra… the sweet smell of Baby you… Alex how much I loved /love you overwhelms me… that memory… Dad was there Mum was there …Effie Yaya was there in the flat in Darling Point…So grovey & Eastern suburbs rich Greek! I looked out over towards the beautiful blue harbour….smelling the black leather couch + angry that now I was no#2…ALEX!!!! the strange matching ceramics in the out-of-date 1930s art deco kitchen….these days will never come back…only live in our memories FOREVER! Geez Sergey, I am gonna miss those marathon letters, the four hour phone calls talking about life, family, philosopy, the jazz scene, your grandson...and all our hopes and dreams for the artform. What I know is this.. Serge Ermoll, open, generous, sweet soul, I am happy for our friendship and our musical partnership....and the laughs...all heart, soul and that amazing intellect....

Serge was a good friend and mate for me for 35 years. I loved his humour and tilt on life, I always enjoyed his playing in particular his exuberance and he always added colour to a song. His was capable of immense vigor and excitement and moments later gentle tenderness. He made his own contribution to art and music in Australia and we will not see the likes of him again. Another comet has flashed across the sky.
