Oh my gosh.... Sharkey's passing comes as a horrible shock.... I have known Sharkey since 1986... and this news has made me so sad.... I knew her mostly at SW San Diego.... She was my friend when I was a kid.... And she always remembered me... no matter how many years went by...I always had big plans to visit her at DC...well, at least she is no longer in her world of walls...and now she can see to infinity. I will never forget Sharkey...
My love of dolphins has always been strong but when I read this story about Sharky it touched my heart because though I've never seen a dolphin up close I've always felt a connection with them spiritually. I can not wait to be able to swim with a dolphin and actually touch one. They are amazing creatures.
it doesnt matter if this was a person or not, it was a living creature and cared for people! im sure its trainer and others were hurt by the death of this wonderful gift from god! sorry for your loss!

I knew Sharky since the mid 80's. She was a retired show dolphin that was placed in the Sea World (San Diego) dolphin petting pool in the late 1980's. She had a calf named Sparky who resides in animal care (SWC). Sharkey had- what some may call, a bit of a weight problem....she was a big girl, with an even bigger heart. Sharky loved her people friends, and gosh...did they love her. I never got to visit Sharky in Discovery Cove. I was actually shocked that they moved her, as she was really getting up there in age;...to hear the horrible news on how she died, has made me so very sad, as she was my friend. Many people will remember Sharkey of the way she died, but I will remember her on how she lived, and how she touched my life forever. I will never forget you Sharky.
Miss you alot i saw you once and just googled you to see some more pics but then i read you died now im sad.
My husband and I surprised my mother last year with a trip to Seaworld. It was her 70th birthday and she had no idea until we pulled up to the park. We all loved the whole experience. Watching her tear up as all the animals performed was priceless. Our hearts go out to the staff and trainers. May your memories of Sharky bring you comfort.
we saw sharky just last month. the kids loved him. my daughter heard about this on the radio this morning and we found this site. good bye sharky!
