Steve - I'm addressing this to you as unfortunately we didn't get to say our farewells so I'm still finding it a bit hard to believe from over here in Vietnam. It seems a very long time ago now that 'Rowdy' introduced us and you started sailing with us on Mingara 3 on Sydney harbour. The bump in Rach's front that pretty much matched Chris' when I first met her at Edgecliff soon after your arrival in Sydney made me realise that we would be seeing a lot of each other. Our first born's Jack and Neave followed soon after down the corridor from each other at Royal Womens. George and Clare came not long after that. It took you a while to go for number 3 but what a reward you got with Ali and Eva. Your courage an unselfishness was inspirational. Might even cheer for the All Blacks next game (just the one). But then again you would probably say, 'Come on mate, you're getting soft'. Rest in peace Steve, Pete

Steve and I shared an interest in the financial markets and used to discuss trades and deals over a few beers. Steve was probably the one of the most successful traders I’ve met in my time. I used to say “Hey Steve I’ve put on this trade – what do you think ?’ and he’d say he taken the exact opposite position to me. No guesses as to who made money... Every so often we’d go sailing together. He was the sort of guy that said what he meant and always showed up as promised. He really liked being on the water and it was only a few months ago that we had our last sail together at Pittwater. Despite his illness he jumped off the boat and swam to shore and back again. A huge feat given the amount of pain he was in at the time but he never complained about his situation. Steve was only concerned for his family: he always liked to talk about them and how proud he was of them. Steve leaves me with very fond memories of the fun times we had. I cannot get over how brave he was throughout his ordeal and his stoicism to the end. I’ll miss you mate.

I worked with Steve in the early 90s, he went on too bigger and better. I wont bore anyone with details but he was a good laugh. I caught up with him again December 2007 and he had not changed and it was a pleasure too see him again and last November. Really very sad to hear of his passing and my condolences to his friends and his family. Rest in Peace Steve Scoots
