It was way back in the late 70*s when another relative, namely Gwen Virtue met them both whilst doing research into the family history of William Baker at the Genealogical Society. Gwen, Ruth Sargent and both Hunter and myself were not getting very far in our efforts and lo and behold Gwen overheard Thelma and Tom talking about William Baker and the "Neptune". Seeing as how they were talking about "our" relatives, she went up to Thelma when Tom had moved away and asked her why they were talking about OUR William Baker. From that meeting it all grew, we all got together on many occasions and gradually filled in the missing parts to the point where Tom then completed his books in 1984. I was very proud and pleased to be involved with them and to take on the job of typing the original books - no computer just a typewriter and many letters and details going back and forth between me and Thelma and Tom. Thelma did all the checking of details and gradually the book came to pass. We had such lovely times together and on many occasions over the years we were able to visit these lovely people. Thelma was a absolute lady in all respects and delighted me by sending many beautiful quotations on life which I have to this day. Thelma was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend and completely adored her family. It is very, very sad that she has gone but a fond memory of her will always remain with us.
