One of my happiest memories of mum was when she was still living independently in her unit at Cronulla. On Saturday afternoons she would catch the bus to my house at Woolooware and spend the night with my two border collies and I. I would order pizza and we would watch videos and drink white wine and laugh and talk. The next day she would play with the dogs and I would cook her lunch. She always enjoyed a meal that she didn't have to cook herself! Then, one Saturday afternoon, she failed to arrive at my house. I got in the car and drove to Cronulla Railway Station and found her sitting all alone at the bus stop. "What are you doing here?", I asked. "I don't know", she replied. It was the start of a long, slow, sad decline. I will always cherish the memory of these happy days with mum and the dogs.

Such a gentle person, my mum was universally liked by those who knew her. As far back as I can remember people would tell me what a lovely mother I had. No stranger to tragedy in her life she remained strong for those around her. She was my rock. She was an active member of the Walking for Pleasure Group and Caringbah Bowls Club for many years. She passed away peacefully after a long illness. My sincere thanks to the nurses, support staff and volunteers at Lark Ellen Nursing Home over the years for making her comfortable and loved during her time there.
