although I did not see much of him as I was growing up he was a mentor to me, all my life when I needed a lift I would remember how tough it must have been for him, his strength was amazing and I miss him, Vic Fauvel (nephew)
Vic and my father served together with the 2/23rd Battalion in the Middle East, they were a part of the Famous Rats Of Tobruk. As a child I can vividly recall my father mentioning Vic's name and telling the amazing story of how a stray bullet stuck him in the head while at the train station in Cario, and that he survived! I met this amazing man and his wife only briefly at the 70th reunion of the formation of the famous 2/23rd battalion in Albury last year, we only spoke briefly, he recalled my father and spoke of him as young Herbie, what a thrill it was to meet the amazing Vic Fauvel. My Father past away nearly thirty years ago but today I wore his Tobruk Medal to Vic's funeral, once again they will share time together and bask in the glory of thier amazing feats defending Tobruk against all odds. What we would give to spend just one day with these amazing men when they were at ther very best. Rest In Peace Victor Drew Fauvel
