I can't believe what I have just read. I just didn't know. I was googling Walter to get back in touch and got the most heart breaking and shocking news. I'll never forget the friendship I was privileged to have had with both Kathy and Walter way back when they were SHOs at RPH. They were wonderful, beautiful people and I'm gutted that the world has lost such a perfect couple. Kathy and I were firm friends for a few years and I'll forever treasure the memories of the fun we had, and what fun we did have! Kathy and Walter, I loved you both then and that love has never gone away. With love. Mandy

Walter Rhoden was my first consultant in 1997 when I qualified. May they rest in peace.

I went to St. Andrews/Manchester Medical school with Wally (as he was know). After we finished our internship at Royal Preston Hospital, I emmigrated to America and Wally joined me for my first month there as part of extended vacation for him prior to starting a SHO position in medicine. I have so very very many memories of times we spent together that I cannot distill them into a single sentence or paragraph. He was for a few years my best and closest friend. So long my friend...see you on the other side.

Walter and I started medical school together, so I knew him for 30 years. Coming from the close-knit community of St. Andrews Medical School in Scotland, there was an unspoken bond between all of us - we were all friends, and it feels like we have lost a dear and close relative. Subsequently working in the same area as both of them, I have continued to cross paths with them over the years, and I know that many of us are totally devastated by their deaths. They were good people taken too early. I am pleased to feel that they were friends, and I remember Kathy's pain when she explained to me that her (then) unborn child had a serious heart defect. But by the saddest of circumstances, he remains whereas Walter and Kathy have gone ahead. It was a privilege to know them both.

What a tragic way to end a vacation. Rest in peace.
