I met Bill while I was an assistant at GGS Timbertop in 1983. He was seriously hilarious - he could tell the best jokes but also had a wonderfully self-deprecating sense of humour. I remember him having the staff room in stitches regaling us with a story of him running a cross-country at TT with only one shoe on. Bill was also capable of great compassion and empathy, he was a trustworthy and trusting friend. I was so sad to read of his death in the lightblue. My commiserations to his obviously devastated family and friends.

Dear Nicole, Sam, Eliza and Angus, I would like to pass on my deepest sympathy to you following the loss of your husband and father. Bill was the best person I have ever met in business. He was intelligent but also possessed outstanding people skills, leadership skills and compassion. I first met him when Health By Design operated a program for Victorian concrete – back in Bill’s Readymix days. I assisted him with some personal health advice for a period of time and then had a further working relationship when Bill moved to Fulton Hogan both in Melbourne and then New Zealand. We caught him for dinner last year in Christchurch – just down from Merivale Manor and I was in contact recently following the earthquakes. Bill had an amazing ability to successfully manage a working relationship and develop a friendship at the same time. I will miss him greatly and my main reason for sending this was to let you know that I thought your husband and father was a wonderful person that I am sure you are extremely proud of. I wish you all the very best as you attempt to deal with your enormous loss. Kindest Regards, Greg McLoughlin
