About

His Story

His history expands back to 1924 when he was born in China.  At 16 years old he moved to Hong Kong during the war.  He moved to North Vietnam where he became a successful businessman.  He married at 20 years old and had 8 children.  Since another war broke out, he moved his family to South Vietnam where he continued to do well in business and became president of Dong Phuong bank as well as the superintendent of the school Sung Nho.  His wife fell ill and passed in 1967.  He remarried in 1969 and had 5 more children.  Another war broke out in Vietnam and he decided to move his family to the United States in 1980.  He had his youngest in 1982 for a total of 14 children.  He has a total of 32 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

He was a man of class.  He was always well-dressed and groomed regardless of where he was going.  He even liked to look and smell nice at home.  He would often comb his hair and spray on Drakar cologne.  Dad loved to cook for his family.  Right when you walked through the door, he would feed you until you couldn't eat anymore.  The joy on his face when we would eat his cooking was undeniable.

We give thanks for the life of a man who was not only a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather but a joyful, selfless, kind, and irreplaceable man whose beauty, both internal and external, will never be extinguished from our minds.  Daddy we love you, may you rest in peace.

Memories

Our Dearest Dad....

Cuong & Vivian Apr 07, 2008

As morning breaks we would hear footsteps upstairs. By the time we're upstairs you would always greet us with your smile and your delicious cuisines. We would have great conversations with tons of memories and laughter at the dining table. Mom would always rat you out on something you did, that made us laugh and smile. Then you would laugh it off with a hihi.

We miss you dad......
Our hearts is reaching out to you
No one can replace our memories of you
We're thinking of you frequently
And praying for you
May you rest in peace in the heavens above
Give us the strength we need to watch over others
We love you dad

Goodbye, Our Dearest Grand Uncle...from Vietnam

George Chung Mar 02, 2008

This is George Chung (currently still in VN), I am very sad that our Grand uncle has left all of us, but at the same time, I am happy for our Grand uncle, that he is not suffering for more; but most importantly, he has joined his dearest Brother Hoa Khon Truong (Chicago), our grandpa Hoa has mentioned his most admired brother from Michigan many, many times...
When I went to supermarket with my Grandpa in Chicago, he always asked to get some COCONUT CHEWY CANDY for our Grand Uncle (his favorite snack) and mail the dry goods to Michigan to his dearest brother. Whenever I see bag of the BenTre Coconut candy, our Grand Uncle will be the first to remember....
God bless all...

The Classic '60s Gentleman...

ANDREW SEI HONG Feb 29, 2008

For some unknown reason that I still have yet to decipher, I have always admired--and will continue to do so--people that were in their prime during the '60s era. Perhaps, it is because of movies such as 'DAYS OF BEING WILD', 'IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE' and '2046' that left a lasting impression on my mind after watching them. Hence each time that I saw Mr. Truong, he always reminded me of the characters from these movies, because he himself was a man of the '60s...always well dressed and never a strand of hair out of place, even when he was in his 80s. More importantly, along with style, Mr. Truong was also a man of class and generosity. He always welcomed me into his home and treated me as one of his sons. I will certainly miss having tea and conversations with him over news from Hong Kong and China...not to mention his cooking. May his traits remain with us while he leaves for another world.

My Memory

Kim Hoang Feb 26, 2008

I will always remember him as a carefree and giving person. He always welcomed me in his home and was quick to feed me all his delicious dishes! He was a great grandfather as well to Aiden and Nana. They loved going to him for full-size treats! He will be greatly missed.
